Phil Marriott
Name: Phil Marriott – but commonly known as Double R Double
T, or R2T2!
Home location: London
Favourite track of the moment: 'Alive' by Adrian Lux ft The
Good Natured.
What is your drag name? Swan Vesta, ever since I donned a
Bjork-style swan outfit (complete with feathered tutu) for the Girl Icons night
at Club i, the alternative/80s club night I promoted in London
Hottest celebrity: Colin Farrell wins hands down every time!
What's not to like? Handsome, cheeky and THAT accent.
Who would turn you straight? Sophie Ellis-Bextor. She's like a
china doll. Just beautiful. And those cheek bones are incredible!
Biog Blurb:
With a DJ history spanning over 13 years, Phil Marriott is resident at some of
the UK's biggest clubs, along with being one of the main presenters on
GaydarRadio.
Phil has previously worked for Virgin Megastores Radio. He honed his management skills at 107.2 Win FM/Dream 107.2 in Winchester, where he spent two years as Programme Manager of the station.
In 2009, Phil presented Moon Safari on the Bauer group's successful indie station, Q Radio, before he returned to GaydarRadio. Phil currently manages the music at GaydarRadio, along with presenting the Evening Show. He also presents and produces the Club Nation show every Friday night where he mixes the biggest upfront and current anthems on the scene. Phil also produces the Club Nation guest mix show where, each Friday night, top DJs take over the airwaves with their own mix.
Phil has welcomed some of the biggest celebrity guests on his GaydarRadio show. Guests have included Calvin Harris, Annie Lennox, Sugababes, The Ting Tings, Kelly Rowland, Alexis Jordan, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Faithless, Gossip, A-ha, Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, Siouxsie Sioux and the Freemasons.
Phil continues to DJ at numerous clubs across London and the south, including Beartrap at Gaydar's very own Lo Profile venue. Phil also played a huge part in launching the successful, award-winning ONYX night at Area, where he was one of the main residents every Friday night since it launched. Onyx picked up both the Boyz and Scene Queen Awards for Best New Club Night in 2010. Phil's previous club gigs have included sets at Revenge (Brighton), Kremlin (Belfast), Legends (Brighton), Popstarz (London) and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern (London).
In 2009 and 2010, Phil DJ'd to thousands on the main stage at Manchester Pride, and in 2008 he DJ'd and introduced acts such as K Klass, Shena and Peyton.
In the summer of 2010, Phil DJ'd at Cardiff Pride and was one of the DJs to play the House Rules arena at Tiesto's London show at Victoria Park, London. Phil was on the bill alongside influential international DJs such as David Griffiths and Gareth Wyn.
On 3 June 2011, Phil launched his first club night called Club i – which fast became London's best alternative night out for fans of indie, 80s and electronic music.
Programme Blurb:
Welcome to Phil Marriott's Evening Show! It's the best time to hear brand new
music, with a huge sprinkling of upfront anthems ready for the taking, weeks
(and, in some cases, months) ahead of their release date. Every night, I select
a handful of tracks with promise, called the HOT4, and invite the listening
public to cast their views. You are also guaranteed the biggest and best
celebrity interviews, gay news, gossip and competitions.
Each night, I unleash the Bending Topic – something in the news to make you think about, question or argue over, or quite simply something bizarre that you've seen happen out on the scene that makes you question your own sanity!
On the Weekend Warm Up every Thursday, we round up the biggest new releases of the week and countdown The Upfront Chart – a collection of 10 of the most popular forthcoming dance anthems that are destined to be massive on the club scene around Gay UK.
On Friday night from 6, I officially kickstart the weekend with Club Nation – a live 4-hour mix show which sees me DJing in the studio at Gaydar Towers, and including the biggest classics, the biggest dance tracks from the chart, along with the finest upfront anthems that are huge in clubland.
