Conservative member of the European Parliament Marina Yannakoudakis is demanding the immediate release of two men arrested in North Cyprus on charges of homosexuality.
The London MEP has been campaigning for the repeal of a law which bans same-sex activity and has met with the Turkish Cypriot leader Dr. Derviş Eroğlu.
Northern Cyprus declared itself an independent state in 1983 but has yet to receive official international recognition.
Mrs Yannakoudakis told Scott Roberts that Dr Eroğlu needs to honour his commitment to remove the homophobic law and that she will be writing personally to him over the issue.
