INDULGE YOUR SENSES, REWARD YOUR HARD WORK, SPOIL YOURSELF AND FLOURISH IN SWITZERLAND
The summer seems a long way off right now - so why wait another six months to escape?
Switzerland, the winter paradise, has an abundance of magnificent slopes that guarantee a great skiing holiday. Most of the resorts have snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating and tobogganing facilities and excellent après ski!
If you’re a beginner you’ll quickly learn in one of the many ski schools where the staff speak English and are all expert instructors. If you’ve skied before then there are also classes for intermediate skiers and snowboarding lessons.
Here’s a few of the best resorts:
Adelboden
Adelboden is located on an altitude of 1,400 meters above sea level in the
Bernese Oberland. This really is a traditional mountain village. You’ll find old
wooden chalets with overhanging roofs and more than 3,000 peaks that offer
spectacular scenery. Adelboden, and its surrounding area, features great lakes,
alpine streams and wild flowers. It lies on a sunny, south facing mountain
terrace. A charming and friendly village with 3,500 inhabitants, Adelboden
offers one of the most extensive skiing areas in Switzerland.
Gstaad
One
of the world`s top resorts incorporating an excellent sports centre with free
access to lift ticket holders, pedestrianised in 1997. Gstaad has everything you
could possible desire and a reputation to die for. All your winter sport
requirements are catered for here: downhill and cross-country skiing, ski
touring, snowboarding, skijoring, curling, ice skating, tobogganing and much
more. In the vicinity you’ll find 69 cable cars and ski lifts, 250km of
beautiful ski trails of varying difficulty. With its superb landscape as well,
it’s no wonder that Gstaad is so well known!
St. Moritz
The
world famous resort of St. Moritz lies on a sunny terrace in the heart of the
Engadine valley. This chic and vibrant town, second home to the rich and famous,
enjoys a special atmosphere and a dry, tingling champagne climate. Two winter
Olympics, in 1928 and 1948, helped carry the name of this stylish resort and its
fabulous location.
Wengen
Wengen lies high up on a sunny, sheltered terrace at the foot of the famous
Jungfrau mountain and enjoys spectacular views across the Lauterbrunnen valley.
A charming, friendly village, Wengen has a traditional Alpine character. No cars
are allowed in Wengen, so everyone and everything arrives here by the mountain
railway and which also links Wengen to Grindelwald. Some of the finest skiing in
the whole of the Alps is to be found in the Jungfrau region.
Zermatt
Regarded by many as Switzerland`s top resort for skiing and by some as the best
in the world. Picturesque, car free with spectacular views of the Matterhorn,
the mighty monarch among mountains. It is a well-known winter sport resort with
the highest ski slopes in the Alps - Zermatt is situated 1,620 meters above the
sea level. It has a large glacier for summer skiing, lift links to Cervinia in
Italy, the world`s second biggest vertical drop and one of the most magnificent
mountains in Europe.
