Dykons: Kate Winslet
by Bree Hoskin
27 January 2012
They made your hands clammy, your knees quiver and sent your hormones spinning when you were a dyke in training. It’s time to pay homage at the altar of dyke icons. This week, it’s the sexy, down to earth actress who likes to reveal all.
Name:
Kate Elizabeth Winslet.
Also known as:
An Academy Award winner.
Not to be confused with:
Rose DeWitt Bukater, Marianna Dashwood, Iris Murdoch, Mildred Pierce or any
other character she’s brought to life onscreen.
Last seen:
In the film Contagion and in previews for her unpcoming black comedy
Carnage, co-starring Jodie Foster. That’s right, Jodie Foster!
Best feature:
Luminous eyes and pillowy lips.
Candy Bar or Kenric?
Neither. Kate’s a busy woman, what with all her films and award ceremonies. Her
latest award was a Golden Globe for Mildred Pierce, FYI.
Most likely to:
Be passionate about nude scenes. “I like exposing myself”, she says. “There’s
not an awful lot that embarrasses me. I’m the kind of actress that absolutely
believes in exposing myself”. We love a woman with conviction!
Least likely to:
Become a Hollywood diva. Down-to-earth Kate insists she’s an English girl who
will always call England her home. Well, British is best.
Is she a sista?
In real life, she’s been married twice – first to Jim Threapleton, then to Sam
Mendes. On film, she may be remembered for one of the most famous onscreen
kisses of all time with Leonardo on the bow of a giant ship, but we’ll never
forget that her first ever onscreen kiss was with Melanie Lynskey in 1994’s
Heavenly Creatures.
No wonder we’ve been hooked on this dykon right from the start.
Phwoarrr rating?
Creamy skinned and curvy, Kate’s one heavenly creature herself.
Do mention:
The fact that she’s the youngest actress to receive six Academy Award
nominations. Which reminds us of the time she appeared in Extras as the
star of a film about the Holocaust in the the hopes of finally getting an Oscar,
telling Ricky Gervais that everyone who does a film about the Holocaust wins
one. And guess what? She then went on to score the Best Actress Oscar for the
Holocaust-themed film The Reader.
Don’t mention:
That she’s a movie star, even though she is. “My skin crawls if you call me a
movie star”, she says. “I get embarrassed”. So, asking her to get naked isn’t a
problem, but call her a movie star and she blushes. Interesting...
Kate’s new movie Carnage opens in UK cinemas on 3 February 2012.

Her controversial new film role has us asking – how can such a liberal woman transform into the Iron Lady? She’s a brilliant actress, that’s how.
