Mrs T

by Bree Hoskin

18 November 2011

Meet Mrs T - not the Iron Lady, but the drag act who is set to become the next Lily Savage. Having entertained British holiday makers for the past 17 years at her own clubs in the Canary Islands, she’s now got her own TV chat show every Sunday evening on SkyTV Channel 201 and Freesat Channel 403.

We caught up with Mrs T, aka Manchester born Paul Carroll, to talk about what’s in store, the celebrity closet, mega fame, nights out starting with Kylie and duets with Kermit the Frog.

Stop or confirm (or start) a rumour about yourself...
I’m selling up and leaving the Canary Islands for LA where I’m going to live between the Beckhams and the Cowells.

So, how did Mrs T come about then?!
Mrs T was discovered one bright summer evening on the back of a yacht off the coast of Blackpool. I was sipping on a pint of ale with a bunch of colleagues and suddenly she was born.

Tell us a bit about The Mrs T Show - what can we expect?
The Mrs T Show lets you into the lives of a group of drag queens who live, breathe and perform together out in the Canary Islands. You can expect lots of laughs, good conversation, singing, dancing and a few surprises along the way.

How does one come to get their own show anyway?!
Well, that would be telling, but for now all I need to do is look after a very handsome producer until we have been aired.

How do you feel about mega fame? Is it something you aspire to?
Absolutely. I already perform to more than 60,000 people a year at the Music Hall Tavern, so I think I am pretty famous already in my own little way.

Who's the most famous person you've ever met? What happened?
Kermit the Frog. We have been duetting a Muppet Show rendition for over 16 years.

What's your take on celebrities who won't come out of the closet?
Get a grip and just go for it, you’ll feel much better afterwards.

"For now all I need to do is look after a very handsome producer until we have been aired."

Finish the sentence: A good night out starts with...
Fifteen glasses of Blue Nun, an aspirin chaser and 'I Should Be So Lucky' on repeat!

It ends with...
An inflatable hunk.

It's our round - what are you having?
Champagne and a Diet Coke.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
To stop doing what I am doing - it just made me want to do it even more!

And finally, why should we all be tuning into your new show?
For a right good laugh and to see what to expect at one of our Music Hall Tavern shows the next time you are in the Canary Islands on holiday.

The Mrs T Show airs on Sundays at 7.30pm from 20 November on SkyTV Channel 201 and Freesat Channel 403. Find out more at www.themrstshow.com.
